Horse racing is full of ups, downs, and moments where there’s not much going on at all for everyone in the business - from well-known barns to single-horse stables. This is also true for Taste of Victory Stables. Though 2023 may not have been as successful as years past, we still had many wonderful moments with our co-owners and horses.
2023 was a transition year for Taste of Victory Stables. We downsized our number of horses in late 2022 / early 2023 to simplify our transition to a new accounting method. With a fewer number of horses came fewer races and thus fewer opportunities for victories, but throughout the year we began adding new horses to our stable. We first introduced the “California Fillies Group” based in California, then the “Lava Man Group” based in Ohio and West Virginia, and the “Kelso Group” based in New York.
Those horses, in addition to Hit the Road and Marley’s Ghost who were already a part of our stable, provided us with quite a few memorable moments.
Lust for Life broke his maiden in his career debut
Lust for Life finished 3rd in the Joshua Radosevich Memorial Stakes, his first stakes attempt
Commissioner D broke her maiden in her second attempt
Two-place finishes from Marley’s Ghost at Saratoga
4th place finish by Hit the Road in the Wickerr Stakes
4th place finish by Hit the Road in the City of Hope Mile (G2)
We also hosted or attended many great events in 2023. Among them were:
TOV Day at the Races at Saratoga
TOV Day at the Races at Del Mar
Racing Partnership and Syndication Night at the Museum
Day at the Races with Taste of Victory Stables (charity event to raise money for Las Floristas and Rancho Los Amigos Children’s Hospital)
As we move into 2024 on the momentum that we’ve had with horses like Lust for Life and Commissioner D, we are guaranteed to have a fantastic, fun year. Taste of Victory will continue to add horses to our stable and continue to provide opportunities for new people to get involved in horse racing and create memories that will last a lifetime.
